The COLECCIONA Encounters Visit the H.E.F. Collection of Juan Entrecanales

Created and managed by the collector Juan Entrecanales, it is one of the most important private collections in Spain. On 25 May, moreover, a conversation between artists will be held at the venue.

COLECCIONA is a project created on the initiative of the Estampa Fair in 2014. After five editions, the program is in excellent health and continues to energize the Spanish art scene, always focused on the field of contemporary art collecting. The sixth edition (held this year 2019) includes activities at different venues, occupying emblematic spaces such as the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, the RAC Foundation in Pontevedra or the H.E.F. Collection in Toledo. It is precisely in this space, belonging to the art collector Juan Entrecanales, that an activity has been organized bringing together three leading artists in current Spanish painting: Soledad Sevilla, Lluis Hortala and Carlos Leon. The three will take part in a conversation on La pintura ahora en la Coleccion H.E.F. The event will take place at the venue, a warehouse fitted out as an exhibition space where a guided tour will also be held. In addition, Juan Entrecanales himself and the curators Maria del Corral and Lorena Martinez del Corral will take an active part in the conversation and the tour.

The H.E.F. Collection is one of the most representative of 19th-, 20th- and 21st-century Spanish art. It comprises more than five hundred works and last year was awarded the “A” Collecting Prize granted by the ARCO Foundation. Although most of the pieces that make it up are the work of Spanish painters, the space also incorporates the presence of foreign artists such as Marc Chagall or Gunther Forg. Juan Entrecanales’s collection focuses above all on painting; in it, the works made between the 1950s and 1960s (the era of the El Paso movement, with figures such as Fernando Zobel, Antonio Saura or Jose Guerrero) and the present day stand out very particularly. The COLECCIONA Encounters are organized under the direction of Jose Maria de Francisco, also responsible for the Estampa Fair, and take place in various Spanish cities such as Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Pontevedra, Cadiz or Barcelona. The program includes forums, seminars, lectures and studies related to contemporary art collecting, which take place between the months of March and June 2019.
