From my Madrid studio I set aside my brushes for a moment to give a different kind of brushstrokes, some brushstrokes about my path in the world of Art. I was born in San Sebastian in the late fifties into a family connected with the world of Painting, through my grandfather, who had an Art Gallery and a close relationship with the artists of his time: Sorolla, Zuloaga, Vazquez Diaz, etc. When I reached adolescence I went to the studio of the painter Jose Camps, who was the teacher of great painters and who trained me with a strong foundation  in drawing and introduced me to the great world of color. At the same time I graduated in History from the University of Deusto.

Some Baroque painters influenced me greatly, such as Velazquez, Van Dyck or Rembrandt, and, above all, the great Painting of the 19th century.

I continued my training in Paris, then in Italy and finally in Madrid, with various masters. I was very interested in meeting the most important figurative painters of the moment, such as Macarron,  Revello de Toro or Torrens Llado.

All that baggage has given my work a modern and innovative air, mixing a classical training with a modern, fluid and, I hope, original brushstroke. For me the most important thing  is the treatment of light and the effects it produces on people and things. I am greatly drawn to the study of color and the effects produced by its mixtures and contrasts.  It is important how some colors interfere with others.

In my work  three parts can be distinguished. Within my facet as a landscape painter, I am interested in urban perspectives, beaches or gardens, always trying to seek a special light; I am particularly drawn to the golden tones of the afternoon on those sunny beaches of San Sebastian, or the luminous grays of some rainy days…  Another of my facets is  the human figure. Like a Renaissance painter of our time I seek and investigate the subtlety of the skin in nudes, and the force of movement in my compositions of flamenco dancers, always trying to reflect a special, almost theatrical light… The third and most prominent of my facets is portraiture. What interests me most about the portrait is achieving a natural and elegant air in the sitter, as well as  making a psychological study of them, and through their gaze reaching their inner self.

I have painted important figures of our society, beginning with our King and Queen. Bank presidents, politicians, artists, and many other people who love Painting have posed for me. I try to make the portrait a painting in itself, independently of its subject.
