The professional career of the singular French jeweler Elie Top (Hazebrouck, France, 1976) is, to say the least, fascinating. From a very early age he showed an inclination toward design, fashion, architecture and gardens. At only 15 years old he ventured to send some of his fashion designs to Christian Lacroix, who advised him to study at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, a private institution where techniques in pret a porter and haute couture are taught. From there, his professional career took off when he collaborated with the prestigious fashion house Yves Saint Laurent, where he worked with the legendary and charismatic designer, learned from the brand’s muse and designer Loulou de la Falaise, and from Alber Elbaz, who had been invited by Pierre Berge to head the women’s pret-a-porter line and later served as creative director of the Yves Saint Laurent brand until its purchase by Gucci.

Shortly afterward, Albert Elbaz would take over the creative direction of Lanvin, contributing to the brand’s revival. Elie Top was called upon by Elbaz to take charge of jewelry design for the firm, giving him total freedom for his creative expression. Later he became responsible for Lanvin’s Haute Couture jewelry line. The originality, elegance and aesthetic innovation of his creations were widely praised and contributed to the beginning of a dazzling career.

In 2015, he decided to create his own jewelry firm, “Maison Elie Top,” characterized by large-scale pieces in a timeless fusion between a classical aesthetic and a time yet to come. His articulated jewels, hidden mechanisms and innovation make his designs unique, and his sophisticated creativity a benchmark of high jewelry, praised by the worlds of fashion and art.
